About The Artist

I am a Scottish landscape and mountain artist painting with oils. I was born in 1977 in Lanarkshire, Scotland and grew up in East Kilbride, I have always had a huge love for the outside environment, wildlife and outdoor pursuits. My parents brought me and my four siblings up to enjoy walking, cycling and caravaning. As a young teenager I started volunteering at a local country park and zoo where myself and other keen youngsters lived for the weekends where my sister and I would walk or cycle the few miles to get there to help look after the Shetland ponies and clean out and help feed the animals. Following this I worked and lived in a riding school.

I have loved to draw for as long as I can remember from a young age, always sketching animals (mostly horses) birds and my beloved Doc Martin boots. Unfortunately my early drawing pads are very sadly long lost.

I met my partner when I was 17 and we have two beautiful now adult children, from caring for and loving them I knew I wanted to do more than my then current employment. I went to College then university when my younger son was nearly 2 to study adult nursing, I have currently been working within the Peri-Operative department for most of my nursing career to this date.

I had developed some physical health issues following covid in 2020 and my mental health was suffering, We have huskies and my normal life pre-covid was walking them 25-30 miles per week up hills or trails and meeting up with a husky / malamute walking group at weekends. I naturally went back to drawing as an escape when I found that walking my dogs was outwith my physical abilities at that time. My son asked me what I would like for my Christmas, December 2021, and he gifted me some oil paints and brushes, I had never tried painting before, except for a Disney scene on my children’s wall with decorators paints many years before. I started painting in January 2022 and I have never looked back. I came across an artist on instagram called Ben Goymour and he had just announced a zoom course to paint a seascene, I immediately signed up and Ben gave me the initial help that I needed to start painting with oils. I will always be grateful to Ben and his lovely wife Kerry for their support and encouragement in those early days. Other than Ben's course I am self taught with no formal training, painting as often as I could as my body allowed and with sheer determination.

My love for the mountains came from completing the national three peaks challenge in 2017, where I became hooked on the hills, unfortunately my physical health has kept me away from them currently, my last hill day in full winter conditions was just before lockdown in 2020 but I am slowly recovering and hope to be hill fit again. The first mountain I ever painted was Mount Snowdon, the last hill we climbed on that challenge, which was the most poignant day in my love for the mountains and where my love for them began.

With a love for the environment being important to me, I try to re-purpose packaging for posting my paintings and prints and my framer uses repurposed wood whenever possible.
